Plus Size Divas: Shopping 101

Frequently, referred to as a plus-sized woman can be a frustrating and daunting experience. Dressing rooms can feel like a prison. Shopping can feel like a chore, instead of a wonderful and fulfilling experience. However, knowing and following certain guidelines is essential to shopping like a pro.

Shirts. Is your torso smaller than your bust? Buy dress shirts to fit your bust. Use a tailor or seamstress to add darts to create a more fitted look. Also, layering tanks and camisoles under your shirts create a smoother appearance. P. S. Make sure an appointment to have a professional bra fitting. You can improve your posture and have a great bust line.

Pants. If you are bottom heavy, stay clear of large geometric prints and loud color pants. Wide leg pants are great for women with large thighs. If you have a small waist and large thighs, purchase pants, which fit your thighs. Have a seamstress or tailor take in the waist.

Dresses. Solid color dresses balance your proportions. Wrap style dresses draw attention to your waist. Wide belts are your best friends. Tunic dresses enhance your flaws and make you appear larger. Dresses with small prints make you look great. Dresses with cap sleeves make your arms look heavier. Large, bold prints on dresses are not flattering.

Shoes. Wearing heels make your legs appear leaner. Ballet flats can make your legs look chunky. Wear ballet flats with flared leg pants to create a nice silhouette. Wedge heels provide comfort, style, and support.

Remember when you go shopping grab several sizes to take to the dressing room. Use the dressing room. Don't purchase it and then find out it doesn't fit. You are wasting valuable time, money, and gas. Shopping should be fun. If you don't have a good time shopping with others, shop alone. You shouldn't feel any pressure to look great. It should come to you naturally.(Source from free article by Cassandra Hawkins-Wilson, an image consultant and president of Sensational Image Consulting Inc, based in the Metro Jackson, Mississippi Area.
